My Transition to becoming a software developer
“Hello World” is the first line of code that many developers write, and was also my first when I made my career switch.
Hi, my name is Adeola, and I'm a marketing strategist who is transitioning into tech. In September 2021, while watching a YouTube video, I came across one in which the creator discussed her shift to Frontend development, which piqued my curiosity so after watching her video, I started carrying out my own research to learn more about frontend development. After spending hours on YouTube watching tutorials and reading articles, I knew that I wanted to learn Frontend development and Product Design.
I knew I didn’t want to go through this path alone because I didn’t know any developers at the time, so I chose to enroll in a Bootcamp. In 2019, I attempted to learn frontend development, but it did not go well for me because everything felt like gibberish to me, and it lacked the community and interaction that I required.
I knew I wanted to attend a Bootcamp when I re-started this journey because I didn’t want to give up if I hit a hurdle right away, I wanted to be able to ask questions and receive answers, and I wanted to be committed to my journey. Following that, I enrolled in Univelcity to study Fullstack Development (Frontend, Product Design, and Backend development). I went from not knowing how to center a div to creating websites, designing user interfaces, and conducting User Experience research in the last five months.
Here are a couple of projects I have worked on :
Making this switch is one that has been the most challenging yet exciting phase of my life, and I look forward to learning and sharing about my journey as I make this transition. You can say hello to me on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. If you’re interested in seeing what I’ve been up to, see my Behance and GitHub pages.
